Use of Photocatalytically Active Supramolecular Organic–Inorganic Magnetic Composites as Efficient Route to Remove β-Lactam Antibiotics from Water

Considerable efforts have been made in recent years to identify an optimal treatment method for the removal of antibiotics from wastewaters. A series supramolecular organic-inorganic magnetic composites containing Zn-modified MgAl LDHs and Cu-phthalocyanine as photosensitizers were prepared with aim removing β-lactam aqueous solutions. The characterization these materials confirmed anchorage onto edges LDH lamellae, a negligible part inserted interlayer space. occurred via concerted adsorption photocatalytic degradation. efficiency depended on (i) LDH: nanoparticle (MP) ratio, which was strongly correlated textural properties catalysts, (ii) phthalocyanine loading final composite. maximum achieved ~93% after 2 h reaction.
